3 Diamonds and a Dog #2

Mar 1, 2012 by

In each post of the Money Counselor “Diamonds & Dogs” series, I pick three items—could be a post, a website, a video, an image—that in my humble opinion would be especially valuable—the Diamonds—in helping Money Counselor readers make better money choices. And to balance the three Diamonds, I pick just one lame item—the Dog.

3 Diamonds

  • San Francisco vs. the McDonald’s Happy Meal: A cool infographic on this epic battle in the war against obesity in children:

  • If you’re fortunate enough to have the choice, should you direct surplus cash to extra mortgage payments or investments? I think the post here and comments (including one of my own) that follow are pretty good: Should We Make Extra Payments on the Mortgage?
  • Sharing is a great way to save money and conserve resources. To get the idea, check out this video on the Berkeley Tool Lending Library produced by the Center for a New American Dream:

A Dog

  • Here’s a short video clip from CNBC’s Kudlow Report of February 24. The topic ostensibly is whether and when it makes sense to draw oil from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve, a subject which merits intelligent discourse. Sadly, none took place during this comical talk-over contest of who can be the most oblivious to and disrespectful of alternate views, which in reality is 100% about politics and 0% about oil and national economic security. What a waste of oxygen.

Nominations Please

Do you have a nomination for a Diamond or Dog? Send it to me please using the Free Advice link at the top of the page. I’ll give you credit if I use it in a “3 Diamonds and a Dog” post.
