Poll: Holiday Spending

Dec 20, 2013 by

AChristmas giftsccording to a Bank of Montreal survey as reported in the Globe & Mail, the average Canadian expects to spend CDN$678 this holiday season on gifts, up only a few dollars from 2012’s actual average spending. In the U.S., a Gallup Survey pegged expected average American holiday gift spending at US$740 compared to last year’s average spending of $770 per ‘gift-giver.’ From the news reports I’ve seen, retailers are pretty pleased with holiday sales so far. I suspect these forecasts will, in the end, be eclipsed by actual sales.

Let’s Do Our Own Survey!

When it’s all said and done, how much do you expect you’ll have spent on holiday gifts this season?

Are you spending more or less than last year? Any particular reason for the change?
